Ayesa is set to provide upgrade and maintenance services for the Santiago Metro’s SAP ERP system

The project is expected to significantly improve the experience of users.

The multinational has been awarded the contract based on its extensive experience implementing SAP solutions using best market practices.

Ayesa, a global provider of technology and engineering services, has been awarded a new contract by Metro de Santiago in Chile. Its scope includes providing support and infrastructure services for the state-owned company’s SAP ERP system, with the aim of enhancing the user experience.

Metro de Santiago is currently focused on driving automation and innovation at every level of the organisation in order to increase the efficiency of its processes as well as save time and resources. For some time now, it has been leveraging big data and AI to manage user information in an efficient and secure manner, the aim being to optimise its services.

Ayesa has secured this latest technology consulting contract thanks to its extensive experience implementing solutions based on best market practices, and its capacity to provide outstanding services. The project, valued at EUR 2.8 million and expected to last 36 months, will see Ayesa provide support to ensure the operational and functional continuity of the metro’s SAP systems. It will also be responsible for the hosting and management of the SAP Metro platform.

Juan Ignacio Mena-Bernal, IT Director for Chile, explains: ‘The system managed by Ayesa is directly integrated with the platforms used by the client’s last-mile suppliers. Thanks to increased efficiency in the way travel cards are managed as well as improvements to the ticket system, users will be able to report problems and ask for assistance with greater ease. The SAP modules upgraded and maintained by Ayesa will generate the internal synergy needed to ensure optimal processes, ultimately resulting in greater customer satisfaction’.

Although Ayesa has carried out many projects in Chile over the past eleven years, this is the first one to be based solely on SAP technology. However, the company has extensive experience with SAP in other countries around the world. One particularly notable example is the technology consulting contract it was awarded in 2010 by Metro de Panamá to provide SAP ERP support, maintenance and implementation services.

This latest contract in Chile is an opportunity for Ayesa to consolidate its reputation as a leader in SAP. As such, over the coming years, it is expected to continue managing major implementation projects in critical sectors such as energy and utilities. Mena-Bernal notes: ‘This project will allow us to provide SAP Partner Services as well as effectively compete with other SAP suppliers in Chile’.

Ayesa is a SAP Gold Partner and has more than 25 years of experience implementing its solutions. It is a leading SAP Service Partner and is certified as an Outsourcing Partner for Operations (Hosting, Cloud & Infrastructure and SAP HANA) as well as Solution Operations (Business Suite and S/4HANA). It is also a Channel Partner (Qualified Partner Package Solution and Partner Center of Expertise) as well as Education Partner.

Ayesa’s work on the Santiago Metro

This latest technology contract has served to strengthen Ayesa’s long-standing relationship with Metro de Santiago. In 2022, the company supervised the extension of Line 3. This saw it oversee the systems governing its CBTC, electronics, communications, central command, station doors, ticket barriers, self-service machines, escalators, lifts, overhead lines and forced ventilation, to give just a few examples.  It was subsequently awarded a contract valued at EUR 11 million to supervise sections 2, 3 and 4 of Line 7.

The Santiago Metro, which opened to the public in 1975, is one of South America’s most modern underground systems and the second biggest, surpassed only by the Mexico City Metro. It currently has seven lines with 143 stations and spans 149 km.
