Ayesa Engineering wins major engineering contract for Lima’s €3 billion ring road

Ayesa has been awarded the detailed engineering for a significant 15-kilometre segment of the €3.06 billion Anillo Vial Periférico (AVP) ring road project in Lima, Peru. This segment represents 55% of the total capital expenditure.

This toll highway will connect 11 districts and benefit over 4.5 million residents. The project will utilise advanced traffic control technologies and deliver under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

According to the ENR Global Sourcebook, Ayesa is ranked 26th worldwide in transportation, solidifying its status as a top-30 engineering design firm in transportation. The company is a top-10 Engineering Design Consultant by Region and Revenue in Latin America.

The joint venture of Ferrovial, Sacyr, and Acciona has awarded Ayesa the detailed engineering for one of the three sections of the Anillo Vial Periférico (AVP) toll road in Lima, Peru. Spanning 34.8 kilometres, the road will connect Lima and Callao, serving over 4.5 million residents across eleven districts.

Ayesa has been tasked with delivering segment 2, which covers 15.1 kilometres and accounts for approximately 55% of the project’s total capital investment. The AVP will be delivered through a co-financed public-private partnership (PPP) model, with toll revenues funding operational, maintenance, and initial capital expenditures. The new ring road will feature cutting-edge technologies, including Building Information Modeling (BIM), asset management systems, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to ensure efficient and secure infrastructure management.

Ayesa is responsible for developing Definitive Engineering Studies (EDIs) within a 38-month timeframe. These studies will provide comprehensive analyses and plans that ensure the project meets engineering, regulatory, and safety standards while assessing feasibility and estimating costs.

Mariluz Ramírez, Transport Division Director for Ayesa LATAM, stated, “This segment will be designed as an expressway with three lanes in each direction. It will include two twin tunnels, multiple structures, retaining walls, trunk and side toll stations, and lateral roads to ease local traffic flow.”

This project aims to alleviate traffic congestion in Lima, enhancing connectivity with key routes such as the Panamericana Norte, Panamericana Sur, and the Central Highway. Additionally, it will link with Lima’s metropolitan transport systems, including Lines 1, 2, and 4 of the Lima Metro, the Metropolitano, and the forthcoming San Juan de Lurigancho-Independencia cable car. Ayesa has played a vital role in delivering major urban transport projects in Peru, including Lima Metro Lines 1, 2, and 4.

This contract further cements Ayesa’s reputation in road and highway design. Having completed thousands of kilometres globally, the firm is recognized as a Top 10 Engineering Consultant in LATAM, as surveyed by Engineering News-Record with over twenty successful road and highway projects to its credit.

Construction of the AVP is expected to create over 70,000 jobs, significantly contributing to the region’s economic and social development.
